The FX board split into two camps on Monday. USD/CNY held 6.6508, with the yuan up 0.0781 against the dollar and extending its run of gains; USD/JPY sat at 157.91, the yen down 0.2922; USD/KRW reached 1344.08, the won off 0.8252. One dollar, soft against the yuan, hard against the yen and won.

For re-export desks this divergence rewrites the CIF cost in local currency. A stronger yuan makes a dollar-priced CIF cheaper when converted to RMB, a plus on the import side; but a weaker yen and won raise the local-currency cost of transshipment, port handling and logistics settled in Tokyo or Busan. A cargo that turns around at a Japanese or Korean port needs its local cost split across two exchange rates, not one dollar figure applied everywhere.

On the euro side, EUR/USD rose 0.0896 to 1.1165 while EUR/CNY edged up 0.0229 to 7.4240. Procurement priced in euros anchors to EUR/CNY, not USD/CNY. Watching each currency pair beats watching one dollar index for the actual payment.
