The euro traded firmly across the board today: EUR/CNY printed 7.4805, up 0.21 from the prior close, and EUR/USD held above 1.1175, also 0.19 stronger. Over the same window USD/CNY barely moved, up just 0.0194 to 6.6953, USD/JPY actually fell 0.25 to 158.2, and USD/KRW rose 0.44 to 1340.2. The dollar split against Asian currencies while the euro marched one way.

For SNSUC's crude resale, when both legs are euro-quoted, a stronger euro lifts the yuan-equivalent landed cost but also trims the dollar-denominated purchase outlay; the net effect hinges on how much euro exposure the contract carries. These trades used to clear in dollars by default. Routing through CIPS euro direct clearing removes the dollar leg entirely, compressing settlement from T+2 to T+1. What you save is not the rate, it is time and compliance friction.

Practically, book euro-settled batches on a separate line, mark exposure live off the EUR/USD and EUR/CNY crosses, and hedge any single-direction position beyond 15% with an NDF or forward. Currency mismatch is not the risk; an unmarked position is.
