In the 30 October FX session the dollar fell against every major settlement currency. USD/CNY printed 6.6529 (-0.1066), USD/JPY 157.25 (-0.2601) and USD/KRW 1334.18 (-0.4083), while EUR/USD moved the other way to 1.1197 (+0.2238). This was not one leg splitting from the pack but the entire dollar leg sinking at once.

For crude transfer that is a clean tailwind. SNSUC's seven-variety transfer book (ESPO, Dubai, Oman, Urals, Basrah Light, Bonny Light, Lula) buys in dollars and settles back in RMB or a third currency; a weaker dollar directly widens the margin. The listed-price basis, Brent × FX × 7.33 × grade, lands at about ¥5,524/t with Brent at 113.27 and RMB at 6.65.

Currency-mismatch risk also falls. Where teams once used NDFs to hedge the yen leg and CIPS euro direct-clearing to drop the dollar leg, a soft dollar and firm home currencies shrink the exposure by themselves. Settlement tightens from T+2 to T+1, cutting days of funding tied up and letting one credit line turn one more cargo.
