Neither rubber moved much today: NR settled at 19,640 yuan, up just 0.03%, and BR at 15,605 yuan, unchanged, leaving the NR-BR gap at 4,035 yuan. On the surface it looks like rubber pinned to the floor, but underneath two different chains are pulling against each other.

On the BR side, butadiene supply has turned loose; several cracker units running steady with cheap import parcels arriving, so BR's cost support is eroding and spot discounts are holding BR back from any rally. On the NR side, Southeast Asia is in its high-yield season and Qingdao inventories are destocking slowly, leaving NR without a story to rally on.

Tire makers read this clearly: with synthetic rubber cheap and stable, they quietly lift the butadiene-rubber blend ratio by a couple of points, cutting cost without betting on natural-rubber inventory. But NR is dollar-priced, so import cost hinges on the exchange rate; with USD/CNY at 6.676 today, the conversion window is better than last week, and plants settled the dollar payables they needed, pulling the RMB landed cost of imported NR down a notch.

For transshipment and hedging desks the signal is: BR weakness is hard to reverse near term, and the NR-BR spread around 4,035 is a candidate for a spread pair. On NR, do not watch supply and demand alone; the exchange-rate leg is lending support today, and the more plants convert below 6.68, the firmer NR's floor becomes.
